I just purchased this modular set because I really need some storage shelving and it was inexpensive. I was really surprised by the quality of the structure and the packing.The pieces were simple to put together and fit together perfectly. The backing and drawer bottoms are actually chip board and slide into grooves where it fits securely and snug. No hammering finishing nails into thick cardboard backing for this. Each side has wooden dowels and wood screws to hold them together securely. The only difficulty I experienced when putting this together were that the screws provided for the handles were a bit small so it did not seem like they completely screwed in but the handles are snugly fitted against the panels and the runners for the drawers were a bit difficult to attach to the side panels. I had to hammer them in pretty hard with a thick piece of card between the runner and hammer to protect the runners.The packing was really impressive. I have order furniture in the mail before and many times the corners of the boxes are buggered up and something gets a little messed up. There is no chance of that happening with this furniture. The outer box was also reinforced with thick cardboard edge protectors and tightly sealed with tape and the plastic banding. Each section of the modular is packed separately inside its own box of sturdy cardboard with foam pieces dispersed where needed. It may seem excessive but when shipping furniture I would like to see my pieces arrive intact and ready to be used/assembled rather than having to wait on a replacement.The reason I give it four stars is because it is quite obvious to me that the paper veneer will not stand up to much wear and tear. Some of the edges appear to already to show some the wood underneath when up close after assembly and a week of use. From a distance it is not noticeable. This is not an issue for me since it is going into my studio and being used to organize my stuff. I would not recommend this for children or high use unless you intend to decorate it in your own way.All that being said I just ordered some additional pieces to add to this modular and probably will order more as I need to expand. It is structurally sound and a good value.
